About Alice
Alice van Rooyen is a data engineer, maker, and independent medical humanities researcher based in the North East of England.
Drawing on a background spanning literature, entrepreneurship, data, and creative practice, she creates projects that explore uncertainty, recovery, identity, and the ways people make sense of complex experiences. Her work combines systems thinking, lived experience, and creative practice to produce artefacts that sit between research, education, and art.

Why Apple Violet Robot?
Apple Violet Robot began with a conversation about what3words. If every place on Earth can be located using three words, what would happen if people had coordinates too?
A colleague became Jelly Balloon Sundae. Alice became Apple Violet Robot.
The name stayed because it reflects Alice's enduring interest in maps, archives, and orientation. Much of her work explores how people navigate uncertainty and construct meaning from incomplete information.
